APA 7: Formatting the Paper

Two Paper Formats?

APA formulated new guidelines for paper formatting You can choose a Student Title Page format or a Professional Title Page format (scroll down). For more information, click here. As always, check with your instructor first to ensure you are using the correct format for your assignment.

General Notes on APA Paper Format

Font

  • Acceptable fonts include 12-point Times New Roman and 11-point Calibri
  • Confirm font style and size with your instructor
  • Use the same font throughout your paper

Spacing

  • Be sure to double space your paper and reference list 
  • Be sure there are no extra lines before or after paragraphs.

Margins

  • Use 1" margins on all pages

Page Numbers

  • Start page numbers on the title page
  • Start with page 1
  • Page numbers should be inserted in the top right of the header
