Community Data & Health Research

Gathering data about the community is an important aspect of public and community health research. Data can provide valuable information about the community's population, overall health, risk factors, etc. Monitoring data is an important part of tracking changes in a community over time.

Below are some types of data that may be helpful in your research.

Population statistics: Statistics about the demography of the population: age, sex, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic factors.

Vital Statistics: Statistics about birth, death, marriage, divorce, health, and disease.

Health Statistics: Statistics can be found on many health topics using a variety of data sources and data collection methods.

Just as you would evaluate the credibility of a website before citing it, you also need to evaluate the credibilty of statistics that are presented online. Look at the source(s) of the data, how it was collected, and who is responsible for the project.
